"They Grew Up, But Didn't 'Grow Up'"

Films: Village of the Giants (1965)

Alias: Giant Cat, Giant Ducks, Giant Dog, Giant Tarantula, Giant Dumb Teenagers

Type: Mutant

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of dinner table to that of a large building.

Affiliation: Neutral (Animals), Evil (Teenagers)

Summary: When man believed in Gods, we would cower in their presence. We would offer them anything to curb their wrath and live to see another day. But when those Gods happen to be a bunch of rowdy teens who stuck their noses where they shouldn't, don't hesitate to resist.

History: It started out as a humble goal. A young boy who happened to be the most intelligent out of his frankly dull town's youth (everyone just calls him Genius, for starters) was fiddling with chemistry when he accidentally created a goo that causes anyone and anything that ingests it to grow spectacularly. At first, it seems rather nice for the hungry masses. But then a group of unrestrained teens get their hands on it, grow up to be colossi, and proceed to hold the town in a bratty vice grip.

Notable Kills: None.

Final Fate: After Genius discovers a reverse antidote, he spreads it around, the fumes reducing the teens back to normal. They are soon driven out of the town by the disgusted townsfolk, leaving the goo to be used for better purposes. As for the grown animals, most return to normal, though the tarantula is electrocuted to death and the ducks are eaten.

Powers/Abilities: Anything conventional, though that antidote works just as well for pacifists.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3-The animals are just fine (minus that spider), but the teens are awful. These spoiled wannabe Gods were tyrants while big, and frankly we were more than grateful to see them humiliated.

Trivia: -This film is a comedic adaptation of H.G. Wells' story, "The Food of the Gods". A much LESS funny adaptation awaits in the next decade...

-That kid playing as Genius? That's actually a young Ron Howard! In a figurative sense, he was the cultural giant out of all of those big guys.
